Apples are a beautiful source of a little known soluble fibre called pectin. Pectin helps keep everything “moving” in your digestive system. The coolest thing about it? When you cook apples, their pectin content increases.
These are a go-to recipe for anyone with gut issues and slower bowels, but I especially love using this with my pregnant clients struggling with digestion!
Ingredients
3 apples, peeled and diced
3 tablespoons of water
1 heaped teaspoon of cinnamon
Method
Place all ingredients in a pot on low to medium heat
Cover with a lid and allow to simmer for 7-10 minutes, or until soft, stirring every 2-3 minutes so they don't stick
Serve as desired! Sprinkle with muesli for an apple-pie-esque meal, top with Greek yoghurt for brekkie – or even enjoy on their own as a warming sweet.
That's it! Simple, sweet deliciousness.
